Mid 19th century packaging and
dishes, Sunday
Display & talk by Kathryn Coombs
Lunch was served on a
mix of several sets of antique and repro china
Packaging display from workshop is on adjacent
table
China patterns used
included Podmore & Walker's "Venus" in green & brown
bicolor, Podmore & Walker's "Washington Vase" in
mulberry and some period-plausible repro Wedgwood black and
white transferware plates. Podmore & Walker was taken
over by Wedgwood in 1858, so P&W backmarks on these
patterns are generally before this date
Main course was
brunswick stew, served in a period blue transferware tureen,
with claret and madeira served in ca. 1830's ringed
decanters. Original 1850's clear glass wine glass in
foreground. These were augmented with modern green Waterford
goblets as we didn't have enough of the antiques to go
around.
Kathryn gave a talk
on tableware and packaging of the era and on
period-plausible repros useful for reenacting purposes. Dish
she's holding is a 20th century Wedgwood transferware repro
safe for reenacting. The Coca Cola cans aren't part of the
display -- purely for refreshments!

and repro items. Click for details on each
